The Power of Negative Thinking.

By geeser

Back in the early 1950s I read Norm Peale’s The Power of Positive Thinking along with millions of other people. It was earth-shattering; mind-blowing. To think that we could simply think and grow rich. I was still in high school but I finished the book, began following his instructions, and got ready to count my first million bucks.

Ten years later I was still waiting for the first million to come in. I decided the first was probably too hard, so I concentrated on my second mil instead.

As of this year, I’m still waiting…for that first mil, or the second, or any portion thereof. Which gets me wondering: If thinking positively works, and all those billions of readers who have absorbed the book through the years all practiced what they read, how come the planet isn’t covered with so many wealthy people there wouldn’t be any third or fourth or fifth world countries. If all we have to do is think positively, why are we suffering, warming globally, starving, unemployed, without healthcare, etcetra and adnauseum.

Maybe it works for some of the people some of the time. Or maybe, it’s predestiny for those few fortunate ones.

Understand one basic law: this planet is negative. The ground upon which we walk is negative. We are born in that environment and mature in that atmosphere. The power of thinking negatively comes naturally.

From my POV, I was told (at a very early age) that I was no good, had never been any good, and would never ever be any good. I think that programming sunk in so deep nothing can delete it. Remember, a kid believes what an adult tells him. At least, back then we all did.

Conscious positive thoughts are fruitless when they come up against that unconscious programming. What mommy and daddy told me decades ago is still indelibly etched in the brain…and no conscious effort is going to remove it.

Darn…!

One Response to “The Power of Negative Thinking.”

  1. Craig Price Says:

The world is negative by default. The problem is people only want to see the positive and don’t understand why negativity exists. It is there to protect us from harm and if we can see why we have negative thoughts we can use them to OUR advantage and not be victims of them.

You can be positive and think negative.
